Letter to my 23 year old self
Dear “younger” Dustin,
I realize you don’t want to make decisions, and its easy to do what people expect you to. But please soul search and be HONEST with yourself and find out what you want out of life, careers, and school. I realize its unrealistic for you to go to college and have your life planned out, and accurate, right out of high school. I also realize that your speech comm degree might not set you that far apart form the masses of unemployed people in the 2009 layoff. Yeah a recession will happen, plan ahead. But you want to do Interior Design, you want to switch majors from speech comm and theatre, but you are to scared to speak up, for fear of what others think. STOP IT! No doubt you will get a ton and love going to college when you are past 30 but its hard, very rewarding but still, very hard. It’s hard to balance home/school/work life. And it is going to sting to see your peers and friends have their careers started and well underway. If you are honest with what you want you can make those decisions now and not when you are forced to.
No matter what I love who you are and who you will become and I am proud of you for for when you begin to be true with yourself and others. Your 30’s are going to rock your socks off! You will like it a lot but you its tough.
Remember if you don’t like the paths set out in front of you blaze your own trail. Then and only then can you have people follow in your footsteps.
Love “present day” Dustin
p.s. exercise more its harder to loose at this age.
